On 18 September 2019, Natural England submitted a collection of reports to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs setting out the proposals for improved access to the coast between Penzance and St Mawes.

All representations and objections were considered before the Secretary of State made a final decision about the reports.

Outcome
On 23 April 2020, the Secretary of State approved the proposals for lengths PSM1 to PSM6.
On 7 July 2021, the Secretary of State approved the proposals for the lengths PSM7, PSM8 and PSM9.
On 4 June 2025 this stretch opened to the public.
