Eswatini has notified WOAH of recent outbreaks of FMD, confirmed on 19 May 2025 ().Ìý

Eswatini is listed for imports of fresh meat from domestic bovines as well as wild and farmed game, as described in the list. It is also listed for selected animal by-products (ABPs). However, Eswatini does not currently have an approved Residue Control Plan for wild and farmed game, nor do they have any approved establishments for ABPs. As a result, the only commodity they are fully approved to export to GB, is fresh beef.Ìý

In response to the outbreaks, the UK Office has updated the list on 16 June 2025 to apply a closing date of 12 April 2025 to Eswatini’s listings for fresh meat from bovine animals and fresh meat of farmed and wild game. As a result, imports of fresh bovine meat from Eswatini are restricted.ÌýÌýÌý

In the coming days, the UK Office will be updating the existing safeguards declarations restricting imports of animal casings (, as amended ) and untreated wool and hair (, as amended ) from FMD-susceptible animals from countries or territories not recognised as free of FMD, to reflect Eswatini’s loss of FMD freedom. Imports of such products from Eswatini already cannot take place as Eswatini does not have any establishments approved to export these products.Ìý
