»Ê¹ÚÌåÓýapp khat plant (catha edulis) originates from Ethiopia and has been used for centuries in several countries in East Africa and the Arab Peninsular around the Red Sea. »Ê¹ÚÌåÓýapp leaves are chewed and have a stimulant effect similar to (mild) amphetamine. »Ê¹ÚÌåÓýapp Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs was asked by Caroline Flint to consider its harms and produce a report. »Ê¹ÚÌåÓýapp Home Secretary has agreed to the ACMD’s recommendations in full. It is important that those who chew Khat are made aware of the risks posed by chewing khat, and that treatment and advice services are appropriately targeted.
