On 12 June 2025, the Treasury confirmed which firms operating in the wholesale cash distribution system have been recognised under Part 5A of the Banking Act 2009 (the Act). This gives the Treasury the power to specify persons involved in wholesale cash distribution to be recognised for the purposes of the Bank of England’s wholesale cash oversight regime. Under the Act, the Bank of England is responsible for managing risks to the effectiveness, resilience and sustainability of wholesale cash distribution throughout the UK (or part of the UK).
