British Ambassador Tom Fletcher today called on Lebanon鈥檚 new Prime Minister, Tammam Salam. During the meeting, Ambassador Fletcher and Prime Minister Salam discussed the pressing issues facing the new government, including the need to reinforce Lebanon鈥檚 security, help the 930,000 refugees from Syria, hold presidential elections in line with the constitution, and maintain Lebanon鈥檚 neutrality in relation to the conflict in Syria.

Ambassador Fletcher passed on a message of congratulations from UK Prime Minister David Cameron, pledging the UK鈥檚 continued support for Lebanon鈥檚 stability.

Speaking after the meeting, Ambassador Fletcher said:

鈥淚 congratulated Prime Minister Salam on the formation of a new government. 皇冠体育appre are huge challenges ahead, but the formation of a government shows that positive politics is fighting back. This is a 鈥榤ade in Lebanon鈥� government, and it now needs to deliver for the Lebanese people.鈥�
