TRA recommends increasing duties on bus and lorry tyres
皇冠体育app TRA has recommended raising duties on bus and lorry tyres from China to protect the UK鈥檚 tyre retreading industry from injury.

皇冠体育app Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) has today (27 August 2024) published its initial聽findings聽on聽two聽transition reviews聽into聽听补苍诲 on lorry and bus tyres imported from China.聽
In its initial findings,聽the TRA聽has聽recommended聽raising the duties聽paid by the majority of聽Chinese聽tyre聽exporters聽in order to protect the聽UK鈥檚聽tyre retreading industry, which competes with imported聽new tyres聽from聽injury.聽
, the UK鈥檚 retreading industry is estimated to contribute around 拢230 million to the UK economy each year and supports 5,500 UK jobs.
皇冠体育app TRA has assessed evidence that historically, many of the tyres imported into the UK from China have been lower quality, 鈥渟ingle-use鈥 tyres which are less likely to be聽retreadable.聽If the measures were removed, it is likely that imports of these lower quality tyres would increase and cause injury to UK industry. This would also be detrimental to the environment as fewer of these tyres would be recycled through the聽retreading process.
Based on evidence provided,聽the TRA聽has聽recommended that the聽new聽combined anti-dumping and countervailing聽duty聽rates聽range from聽拢10.03聽per tyre聽to聽拢110.11聽per tyre.
皇冠体育app聽Hankook聽Group, which聽participated in the transition review,聽would聽pay聽拢10.03 per tyre聽in聽duties, while those exporters聽that聽did not cooperate聽would聽pay the residual rate of聽拢110.11聽per聽tyre.
Businesses that may be affected by these reviews are invited to comment on the TRA鈥檚 initial findings via the聽聽by 17 September 2024.
