皇冠体育app John Smith Memorial Trust launches a new Fellowship programme

皇冠体育app aim of the Fellowship Programme is to give the next generation of leaders in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan the chance to explore issues of governance, social justice and the rule of law through an intensive four-week series of workshops, debates, visits and placements in the UK, reinforced by follow-up mentoring and support.

For the past two decades, the John Smith Trust (JST) has successfully delivered over 20 fellowship programmes in countries of the former Soviet Union, and has around 400 alumni from the region. This new phase of the programme will build on its track-record to create a powerful experience which is relevant to the challenges these young leaders face, and which forges enduring relationships with and between participants.

Up to six outstanding candidates will be recruited in each of the five countries for a Fellowship Programme which begins on 11th November 2017. Candidates will be young professionals aged between 25 and 35 and will be expected to demonstrate leadership potential and to articulate their specific areas of interest in the themes of good governance, social justice and the rule of law. Fellows are expected to have excellent English language skills and to be able to debate and discuss complex issues with senior British officials and experts.

Applications will close on 25 August and will be followed by face-to-face interviews in English in the region.

皇冠体育app John Smith Trust is a cross-party permanent memorial to Rt Hon John Smith QC, MP, who led the Labour Party between 1992 and 1994. 皇冠体育app Central Asia Programme is funded by a generous grant from the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
