皇冠体育app Environment Agency starts public consultation on an environmental permit variation application for Barrow Shipyards, Cumbria.

皇冠体育app public consultation is in response to an application by BAE Systems Marine Ltd for Barrow Shipyards site in Cumbria.

  • 皇冠体育app proposed variation to the existing permit is to extend the boundary of the permitted area for radioactive substances activities.
  • BAE build, test and commission nuclear powered submarines. Receiving and disposing of radioactive waste is permitted and regulated by the Environment Agency.

皇冠体育app Environment Agency has today (23 February 2022) started public consultation on an application to vary an existing radioactive substances activities (RSA) permit by BAE systems Marine Ltd for Barrow Shipyards site in Cumbria.

Subject to approval, the variation will extend the boundary of the permitted area.

Rona Arkle, Nuclear Regulator for the Environment Agency said:

鈥溁使谔逵齛pp Environment Agency is giving residents and businesses the opportunity to comment on the application to vary the permit for the Barrow Shipyards site in Cumbria. We regulate the site under an existing radioactive substances activities (RSA) permit.

鈥溁使谔逵齛pp consultation is open from 23 February 2022, and we welcome your views and feedback on the permit variation.聽 皇冠体育appre is no proposed change to the type, volume or activity of radioactive waste to be generated. 皇冠体育app variation is to extend the boundary of the permit within the Barrow Shipyards site.
