New Charity Commission board member: Mike Ashley

Mike Ashley has been appointed as a Charity Commission board member and will chair the Commission鈥檚 Audit and Risk Committee.

Minister for the Cabinet Office, Francis Maude, has announced a new appointment to the board of the Charity Commission for England and Wales.

Mike Ashley has been appointed Charity Commission board member with responsibility for chairing the Commission鈥檚 Audit and Risk Committee.

His other current appointments include:

  • Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Audit Committee, Barclays
  • Vice Chair, European Financial Reporting Advisory Group鈥檚 Technical Expert Group
  • Non-Executive Director for Government Internal Audit Agency
  • Member, HM Treasury鈥檚 Audit Committee
  • Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales鈥� Ethics Standards Committee

Mike was formerly Head of Quality and Risk Management, KPMG Europe LLP and has more than 20 years鈥� experience as an audit partner for several large financial services groups (most recently HSBC Holdings and Standard Chartered PLC) and for the Bank of England.

In announcing the appointment, Francis Maude said:

Mike Ashley鈥檚 experience of audit and risk management will help the Charity Commission鈥檚 board as it continues to strengthen the regulator鈥檚 effectiveness and protect public trust and confidence in charities.
