Home of L.S. Lowry listed

Famous painter鈥檚 home was his studio for nearly three decades.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

He painted 鈥渕atchstalk men and matchstalk cats and dogs鈥�, and now - 125 years after his birth - his final residence has been listed.

皇冠体育app Elms, home to renowned artist L.S. Lowry from 1948 until his death in 1976, has been awarded Grade II listed status.

Lowry used the dining room of the house, in Mottram-in-Longdendale, Greater Manchester, as his studio during the many years he spent there.

鈥淚 am a great admirer of Lowry鈥檚 works,鈥� Culture Minister said. 鈥淎nd am pleased that, in granting listed status to 鈥溁使谔逵齛pp Elms鈥�, we have preserved the very location where so many of his masterpieces were painted.鈥�

皇冠体育app listing was recommended by . 皇冠体育app organisation鈥檚 Nick Bridgland said: 鈥淟. S. Lowry was a major figure in 20th century British art and his work is found in many major collections internationally.

鈥淗is work is closely associated with ordinary life in the north of England and his house, traditional and modest, echoes the subject matter of his work.鈥�

皇冠体育app Elms is the second of Lowry鈥檚 residences to be listed. His house in Swinton was listed in 1981.
