Foreign Secretary welcomes Security Council Resolution 2014 on Yemen

Welcoming today鈥檚 adoption of a UN Security Council resolution on Yemen, Foreign Secretary William Hague said:
鈥溁使谔逵齛pp UN Security Council has today unanimously made clear its grave concern about the crisis in Yemen. This is not just a crisis for Yemenis but also a pressing concern for the region and the world. This Resolution is a clear indication from the international community that the deteriorating humanitarian, economic and security situation in Yemen is a direct result of President Saleh鈥檚 refusal to agree to a political settlement.
鈥淚n the absence of President Saleh鈥檚 agreement, the potential for further violence is clear. This has already led to the unnecessary deaths of hundreds of protestors, as well as many Yemeni Armed Forces. I urge all sides to refrain from provocation and to reject violence. 皇冠体育app world is watching closely and those who commit crimes, human rights abuses and violations, should realise that they will be held accountable for their actions.
鈥淚 once again urge President Saleh to live up to his commitment to sign the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) initiative, as the basis for political transition. Implementation of any political transition is for Yemenis to decide, but the need is urgent. Both the ruling party and the opposition have a responsibility to ensure political transition is inclusive and meets the demands of the Yemeni people for change and a better future鈥�.
