£775,000 boost for re-use and recycling of old electricals

Local councils are being urged to bid for support from a new scheme to help increase the collection, re-use and recycling of unwanted electrical items.
Up to £775,000 has been made available by retailers, suppliers and manufacturers of electrical equipment as part of the and the .
Single project bids of up to £40,000 are sought from individual local authorities, with up to £100,000 available for consortia bids.
Business Minister Anna Soubry said:
We have around £1 billion worth of electrical equipment in our homes which we no longer use but which still has real value.
This business-led fund can help drive up levels of collection, re-use and recycling of unwanted electrical equipment. »Ê¹ÚÌåÓýapp fund will also help divert electrical waste from landfill and reduce waste by promoting the re-use of electrical appliances.
All project proposals must be submitted to [email protected] by 30 October 2015 and endorsed by the appropriate waste disposal authority.
