Through the āRaisĀing the barā� iniĀtiaĀtive, Highways England working in collaboration with its supply chain aim to idenĀtify curĀrent health and safety best pracĀtice and then define that as the minĀiĀmum requireĀment to be implemented on all major projects.

'Raising the bar' health and safety guidance documents
āRaising the barā� provides guidance on the curĀrent best pracĀtice and minĀiĀmum requireĀments for health and safety on major projects within Highways England. Highways England and its supply chain partners are required to review their procedures against these documents then consider and implement standards on site within six months of the document version date.
Where applicable, each major scheme should comply with the āminimum requirementsā� of the standards.

Not every document specifies minimum and desirable requirements, but these must also be considered and applied where practicable.
