Scheibe SF27 glider, HGM and Schleicher ASW 19 glider, GDP

Summary:

Two gliders, a Scheibe SF27 and a Schleicher ASW 19B, were flying close to Sutton Bank, North Yorkshire, when they were in collision close to a bank of cloud. Both gliders lost portions of wing in the impact and were rendered incapable of flight. 皇冠体育app pilot of the SF27 was able to escape from his aircraft and parachute to the ground: the pilot of the ASW 19 was not able to release his cockpit canopy and was killed. 皇冠体育app engineering investigation indicated that both aircraft were serviceable until the moment of collision.
