Summary:
During training with an instructor at Southend airport the student pilot completed three circuits and landings on Runway 24. 皇冠体育app instructor was satisfied with his performance and instructed him to carry out three more circuits solo. Whilst attempting to land at the end of the second solo circuit the student flared the aircraft too high and reacted by releasing back pressure on the control column, which caused the aircraft to descend rapidly and land heavily on its nose wheel. 皇冠体育app aircraft bounced and drifted left before coming to rest on grass at the left hand edge of the runway. 皇冠体育app nose landing gear leg broke off and the engine, propeller and left wing tip were damaged. 皇冠体育app student was not injured. 皇冠体育app crosswind component of surface wind was below the limit, specified in the flying school鈥檚 operations manual, for students to fly solo. 皇冠体育app student has undergone training aimed specifically at improving his judgement and conduct of landings.
